The UK and France have agreed on a pilot scheme to manage the influx of small boat migrants, dubbed the ‘one in, one out’ deal. Under this agreement, the UK will send back 50 migrants a week to France, while France will in return accept asylum seekers from the UK. This comes at the end of French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to the UK. The deal aims to address the increasing number of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats, a situation that has been a source of political tension between the two countries. The pilot scheme’s success will depend on both nations upholding their commitments and cooperating effectively.
